Ice!

The temps dropped quite sharply this week.  Not too bad here, I think the lowest morning temp was –5C.  My ice tyres finally got a proper work out.  There were a few places where there was sheet ice across the road early in the week that I took gingerly, but like I’ve said before, if you don’t fall off, how do you know you would have.  Anyway, Thursday was a little warmer but just as I set off for work it started to rain, which froze on contact with the road.  I didn’t think it was too bad, got to work with just the usual hairy stretches.  However, one of my guys called in saying it was too dangerous to come in and my wife rang to see if I was OK as she’d seen loads of accidents and it was really icy everywhere.  That evening, my son, who goes out just after me said he’d had a massive slide and crash at the end of our road.  So maybe my ice tyres are working really well.  Apart from the ice sheets, I wasn’t overly concerned on my bike.

In other news, I’ve booked my flights to Italy for June.  On the Jet2 website the flights were listed as £50 out and £58 back.  By the time I’d added luggage fees, booking fees, credit card fees, bike bag fees etc the total came to £257!

Miles for week – 68

Rubbish Week

I was in Bristol most of the week.  Unfortunately circumstances meant that I didn’t ride at all in the week.

Jayne and I went out yesterday for a short ride.  The temps were below freezing and I got really cold.  We only did 9 miles in an hour.  It took two hours for me to warm up.  My fingers were agony for about half an hour after we got in.  It is unusually cold here at the moment, –11 C in some places, a foot of snow at my sister in law’s where they rarely ever have rain.

Our overflow for the water heater header tank was dripping.  It has frozen the gutters.

Warmer tomorrow, then cold again.  At least my ice tyres will get a workout.
